Volume On Cd Player

Is it normal for the volume on the CD player to be less than with the radio? The radio booms, but the CDs are just about right at full volume on the dial. Is that to be expected, or do I have a defective product?

It is normal because the radio station has processing that equalizes the audio to make it brighter, boomier, and louder. The CD probably sounds more natural.
