Jvc Kd-sr60 / Kd-sr40 'link With Headlights' Message

Ever since my radio was installed for me, it's flashed the same message over and over again, every time it's on. It does it at least every couple of minutes. The display/background light starts flashing, as if to get your attention (it usually does- very distracting while driving sometimes), and says, "LINK WITH HEADLIGHTS" and so I know something wasn't hooked up correctly. My question is: what exactly do I need to do to make this stop? That general question covers what is wrong, how to fix it myself, and most importantly, what are the long-term negative affects if left unfixed for a very long time? It's been like this for nearly a year and it never seemed to make any difference, other than annoyingly flash all the time with that message scrolling across. Starting the beginning of last week, I've had to jump-start my truck every time I crank it up. It's so bad now, that if I jump it off at night and turn the headlights on AFTER I crank it up, my truck shuts off. It just dies, immediately. I've figured out that if I flip my headlight switch to the 'on' position before starting my truck (too dead/drained for the lights to turn on) and THEN jump-start it, I'm able to put it in gear and go without it shutting off on me. Of course, any stops that require turning my truck off, I have to get out with my jump box and pop the hood and repeat in order to get my truck started and go anywhere. I apologize for the length here, but I have had a very rough week. I've had to use this truck to get me to work and back home every single day. I just want my truck to go back to being normal. For those who want to suggest it possibly being something else, like my battery (got it 2-3 months ago, so it's new), or my alternator (I checked this too- we have a shop with all I need for anything), I've been trying to figure it out myself and the only thing I have left, is that it must be that radio. My ex-boyfriend is the one who installed it and he did the system in his car just fine, but obviously he did something wrong since I've gotten that message since we turned it on the first time to check it out. My dad said it could be the wires are touching or not connected right. I'm hoping if I fix this "link with headlights" issue and IF there isn't any permanent damage done now to my battery or anything, then my problem will go away. If anyone knows anything about the "link with headlights" message and can help me resolve that issue, that'd be great. Since I've explained everything else, if anyone has any helpful suggestions for me on the broader subject, PLEASE let me know. I'll keep this page bookmarked and check back until I get it fixed. I don't want to take it to a shop, especially since I already have access to any tool I may need, and I'm not mechanically dumb, so I would rather just do it myself. But, I'm stumped on this one guys; I need some help!
