Thermostat Compatability

I have honeywell ct87a44471 with baseboard heat. the temperature fall below the set temp of 80 degrees. it keeps dropping below set temp. There is a hotwater tank controlling all the units in the building. I replaced the old thermostat with ct87k..It doesen't work so i put the old cta44471 back in. what should i do neither works.
