New Ct31 Installed. Won't Start Or Stop Furnace Automatically.

Thermostat is set to heat. Heat selector set to 18. House temp 16 or lower. Furnace does not start unless temp selector moved up (to the right) until you hear a click. House heats up and you hear the furnace stop then start right back up again. Keeps doing this until you lower the temp selector until you hear a click. House cools down again but again the furnace won't start until temp selector is moved up until you hear a click. Seems to be working opposite to how it should. Stays off when it should turn on, stays on when it should turn off. Any suggestions? Only have two wires to furnace, W and R. Adjustment lever set to 0.8 for gas high efficiency furnace

Found the flexible vent connection to the humidifier on the furnace had disconnected So furnace was blowing hot air into the furnace room reducing the amount going through the duct work. Reattached which helped then also put in a new filter. Furnace starting and stopping fine now. Seems the reduced hot air circulation through the ducts caused the thermostat's weird response.
