Hitachi 51f510 Crt Replacement

Ok so screen color is always magenta, took off screen to find that the green CRT is out. I KNOW they say take it to repairt place but I have much experience in full automotive wiring but never worked on tv. They say bulbs or video cards just go out or wires lose in this kind of tv's case.. 1. I checked wires (OK) 2. Card looks perfectly fine after close inspection.. I don't believe this is the case, maybe if all else fails, I will trouble shoot with blue to see if picture comes out yellow like it should if not its faulty card. 3. I believe the CRT or Picture tube is defective or faulty, so was wondering if there are any service manuals that show you how to properly disconect for replacement? Again i know i can take it to a shop and pay alot of money, but im sure i can figure it out with a little help. Also If anyone has any helpfull advice to help troubleshoot it would be greatly appreciated!!   Thanks very much in advance!   Jdm Chinxx

Hitachi CRT rear projection TV sets has a known problem where the the spark gaps on the CRT driver boards start o fail because dust lands on them. (other manufacturers have them enclosed to stop this from happening). The dust causes current flow and as a result the voltages drop and the tube will grow darker. buy a can of compressed air (Radio Shack and such places sells it to clean keyboards) and blow the dust off the driver circuit boards attached to the necks of the CRTs.

The picture tubes are essentially a video output device similar to a speaker being an audio output device. Where a bad speaker and a bad signal both will cause bad sound. Without looking at the signal with an o-scope can be difficult to isolate where the problem is. But the CRT requires filament voltage to heat up the tube (look for the glow at the end of the neck, near the driver board), G1, G2, focus and anode voltages (32,000 volts) aligned to match the characteristics of the tube to get it ready for the video signal to work properly.

If you was to change only one tube you will not only need to know how to set up each of the grid voltages to match the performance of the other tubes so you will not have a greenish picture, but you will need to align the skew, slant, horizontal and vertical size and linearity and convergence for all the different aspects.

Hopefully the dust is your problem. Just remember you can put the driver boards from the other tubes to check if the CRT is at fault, like you can put the other speaker on the bad side to see if it's the speaker or the signal.
