Monochrome On-the-glass 300dpi Scan Is Suddenly Got As Slow As Color Scan!

I use scanner at 300DPI for both color and monochrome scans to PC running Win XP SP2. When I started using scanner, Monochrome scans were fast (9 sec), and color (27 sec) slow, as I would expect. Suddenly, one day, the monochrome scans done by laying page on-the-glass became as slow as the color scans (27 seconds from hitting enter on PC), doing all that "fiddly calibration stuff" at the start of the scan (as if the scanner were scanning in color, but then outputting in monochrome to PC). Monochrome 300DPI scans done from the feeder are still fast as before (9 seconds from hitting enter on PC), but monochrome 300DPI scans on the glass are too slow! What can I do to restore the fast on-the-glass 300DPI monochrome scans?

Slow Scanning Speed

Check 1: To view the image on a monitor, set the output resolution to around 150 dpi. To print, set it to around 300 dpi.

Resolution

Check 2: Set Fading Correction, Grain Correction, etc. to None.

Refer to "Image Corrections and Color Adjustments" for details.

Check 3: In IJ Scan Utility, deselect the Correct slanted text document / Detect the orientation of text document and rotate image checkbox and scan again.
