Continuing G3010 Problem
Many thanks to hzplj9 and others for the several suggestions. The link hzplj9 found while browsing looks promising, but reading through it I see that one stage refers to putting a floppy in the floppy drive; I don't have one! Would putting a blank CD in the CD drive be a possible substitute and require no other changes? I also saw yesterday while going through the umpteenth re-install that an error message came up during the process, saying "hp up-date application has encountered a problem and needs to close". Further details I found were: AppName: setup.exe, AppVer 3.5.0.0, AppVer setup.exe, ModVer 3.5.0.0, Offset 0000d7a9. Maybe I need to just buy a new scanner, but prefer the devil I know.

Just to add something else. I found a reference albeit odd but not uncommon. There is an issue with certain anti-virus software that causes HP scanning software to fail. Possibly trying an install with your anti-virus and firewall disabled. Disconnecting from the net would be a safeguard. Just something to try. Hope that helps. If anything else comes up I will post to this case. Anyone else out there have any ideas?
