Cant Program Remotes

I just bought a house and want to set the outside keypad and new remotes. The key pad did work until I clear the memory on the main unit. Now I can't reset it or the door opener. Once the blinking purple light comes on and I press the remote button the little blue light blinks on the main box. The purple light doesn't go solid. It there a way to reboot the whole system or what am I doing wrong? The keypad outside does the same thing and I cant get the main box to accept it again. Thanks for the help in advance
