There is an air vent at the top of the oven door that will allow some hot air to vent up through the area that you are describing. The amount of air flowing up through that area is normally not excessive but it will heat up the front top portion of the oven door and the cook top above it.

The temperature on the middle part of the oven door can get as high as 170 degrees and still be within normal design standards. The cook top technically does not have temperature limits. Although this area is getting hot, if it the middle part of the oven door is below 170 degrees, then the oven is likely working normally.

This top area of the oven door may be hotter when the oven initially heats and the air in the oven expands and vents out the oven door and the vent on the console. It may eventually cool down slightly after the oven has be operating for an hour. It will still remain hot as long as the oven is operating.

There is a chance that a problem with the door gasket is allowing hot air to escape up through the top of the oven door. Check the gray braided door gasket that is installed around the inner part of the oven door to make sure that it is properly in place.

I hope that this information helps. Your initial description does not indicate that you have a problem or malfunction with the range or the oven door. It is difficult to tell for sure without being able to physically examine the range. Although that area will get hot, it does not sound like it is getting hotter than normal. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and we will try to help you further with this issue.
