Why does my Dewalt compressor won't shut off?

If the air pressure in the tank gets to the normal cut out pressure setting, and the compressor does not shut off, then that typically is a problem with the pressure switch.

Why is my compressor constantly running?

Reciprocating units need time to stop and cool off, or the internals will become damaged. When damage occurs, the compressor can experience valve failures, causing the compressors to run constantly. ... For screw compressors, the cooling systems are much better, so the compressors can run constantly with no issues.

How do I know if my compressor pressure switch is bad?

You need to know, when the compressor has cut off, if the power is still flowing from the power supply side to the motor side. If the power is not flowing, meaning the pressure switch has tripped to off at 95 PSI, and since it's supposed to trip of at 120 PSI (on our fictional compressor) then the switch has a problem.

Why does my compressor not shut off?

If the air pressure in the tank doesn't reach the normal cut out pressure level, and since then the air compressor can't shut off as the pressure never reaches the cut out pressure level, then look to the intake valve or internal gasket leak as the possible source of the problem.
