A spring compressor
A wrench
A screwdriver
Safety glasses
Gloves
Instructions:
Remove the seat from the lawnmower.
Locate the two springs on the underside of the lawnmower.
Use the spring compressor to compress one of the springs.
While the spring is compressed, use the wrench to tighten the nut that secures the spring.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other spring.
Replace the seat.
Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when rewinding the springs on a Cub Cadet BC 490:
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with springs.
Be careful not to over-compress the springs, as this could damage them.
Make sure that the nuts are tightened securely, but not too tightly, as this could also damage the springs.
I hope this helps!
Here are some additional tips:
If the springs are difficult to compress, you can use a lubricant to help them slide more easily.
Make sure that the springs are oriented correctly before you tighten the nuts.
If you are not comfortable rewinding the springs yourself, you can take the lawnmower to a qualified mechanic.
