Needle Won't Move To The Left Or Right

I had been sewing for about an hour--straight-stitch, with the quilter's 1/4 inch seam foot, needle centered. I stopped briefly to rearrange things on my sewing table and must have bumped the screen. When I resumed sewing the needle broke--I saw that the stitch selector had stitch number 8 highlighted and the needle had been shifted to the right--the needle had stuck the top of the foot. I put in a new needle and selected stitch number 1 but the needle did not return to the centered position. I tried to center it with the control but it would not move. I turned the machine off, waited a minute and turned it back on. After it booted up it still did not return the needle to the center position. The control again would not not shift the need le left or right. Is there something I can do to fix this or do I need to take ot back to the shop? Thanks, Colleen
