Turn Off My Apple Ipod Model P9830ll

How do I turn off my Apple iPod model P9830LL. I've held down the Play/pause key but nothing happens

You turn it off by holding the pause/play button until the screen shuts off. If that doesn't work then you can try rebooting it by pressing the menu and center button at the same time.
