Fan Fail Acer 1261
We turned our new acer on for the first time and it comes up with a message fan fail and turns off it as a red flashing then blue light

The three words in your posting that catch my eye are "NEW" and "FIRST TIME".
Don't even mess with it. Return it to the place of purchase (quickly) and demand a new one.
That is why we get a 90 day warrantee. There could be other things wrong and besides, you paid good money for it. Get you money's worth.
