Lightning Damage

Sometimes when it hits the AC input it will short out a "voltage spike detector"(MOV) and this causes the AC input fuse to blow ending in a dead set. This is the best case scenario. A new fuse and replacement of the MOV.
Other times the surge gets though past the MOV and harms more components before it blows the AC fuse. I would remove the MOV (cut it out of the circuit), change the fuse and plug it back in. If the fuse blows again then there is further damage and the set needs a technician.
If you have a set that has a LED indicator that lights up (solid or blinking) then it's likely the surge didn't come in through the AC cord. The blinking LED indicator is a clue to a trained technician as to where the bad circuit is during his tests.
