1) when you first turn it on the picture appears for a couple seconds the it goes completely black.
2) you turn it on and it remains completely black.
3) you turn it on and the picture shows a slight glow, but there is never any video.
If it was one of the first two, the you need to do this test in a very dark room and with a very bright flashlight to confirm the problem isn't with the video sections. After the TV is on point the light into the panel and look around the edges of the flashlight for evidence that there is video present. this is sometimes hard to see, but take your time, maybe hit the menu button to ensure there is a picture to see. And make sure you are careful not to scratch the screen with the flashlight, I have cloth tape on the edge of mine.
If it lights up for a couple seconds then in the dark room you need to look carefully t the over all lighting when it does show up (you may have to turn it on and off several times to get a good view of the entire lighting). Look for an area in the picture where it slightly darker. It should be in a horizontal stripe. This is the location of the lamp that's not working correctly and causing a bad feedback signal causing the inverter circuit to shut off and turning off all the other back lights. There are two thing that will cause a bad back light, the section of the inverter/balancer circuit board associated with that lamp, or the lamp itself. Dependent upon the serial number of this LCD HDTV then the part number of the inverter/balancer varies. If it's the lamp then it needs a new panel and it's not worth the cost to replace it. It lists for over $620. A technician can determine if it's the panel or the inverter/balancer circuit board.
If it never light up and there is video the it's most likely the inverter circuit board has failed and shorted out causing the fuse to open or the power supply.
finally if the screen lights up slightly, then it's either the "main" circuit board, the "T-Con" board or the cable harness that connects these two. This is generally a bad T-con and since it's not available from Sony without changing the entire panel, but this web page shows the two part numbers (again dependent upon the serial number): http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Kdl-32m3000.
Although the "main" could be bad, the fact that it turns on and off, and apparently you have audio (some features of the "Main")shows that a large section of this board is working to some degree. And if in a very small number of instances the cable harness (LVDS cable) can fail.
