The issue you are experiencing with your Sony CDP CX355 CD player may be caused by a dirty or worn-out laser lens, which is responsible for reading the data from the CDs. When the lens is unable to read the data properly, it may cause the hiccup or skip that you are hearing.

Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

  1. Clean the laser lens: Use a CD lens cleaner to clean the laser lens. This can remove any dust or debris that may be obstructing the lens and causing it to skip. Follow the instructions on the lens cleaner carefully.
  2. Clean the CDs: Clean the CDs you are playing to ensure that there is no dirt or debris on them. This can sometimes cause the CD player to skip or hiccup.
  3. Check the CDs for scratches: If the CDs are scratched or damaged, they may not play properly. Try playing a different CD to see if the issue persists.
  4. Check for firmware updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your CD player. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve issues like this.
  5. Consider a professional repair: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be time to take your CD player to a professional for repair. A professional repair technician can diagnose and repair the issue, which may involve replacing the laser lens or other components.

It's also possible that other people may have experienced the same issue with this particular model of CD player. You can check online forums and review sites to see if others have reported similar issues and what solutions they have found.
