Fade Out Sound - Are There Any Setting On This Mp3 Player?

Hi, I'm a magician and I bought this mp3 player to use as a device for adding sound effects to my magic tricks because I lost my sansa clip which worked well.  I have a big performance weekend coming up on Thurs-Friday, but for some reason whenever I play a sound file, the beggining & end fades in/out.  Some of the mp3 files are very short so this results in the file being WAY too quiet to hear anything at all!  I have to put my ear on the micro speaker to hear it.  (I'm attaching a small palmable speaker to it for my close-up magic).  I noticed the mp3 player also automatically turns off. SO my questions are:1) Is there any way settings to turn this off this fade in/out effect?2) How can I disable the sleep mode? (this would cause problems during a performance because I'm setting it up to I just need to hit the play/pause button as required)3) If this is not possible, wtf was SanDisk thinking?  Do they not value their customers & products?  There was nothing on the package that indicated you couldn't turn off sleep mode nor the dafe in/out effect, correct?  If this is the case, is there anyway I could exhange it for the sansa slip mp3 player or at the very least get a coupon for 15$ off? (I paid $15 for it but unfortunately lost the reciept)
