Samsung Tv Goes Dark

My Samsung model hls5687wx xaa TV- recently installed a new bulb and now my picture periodically goes dark, but sound remains - I turn TV off and it comes back on ok - but this happens more frequently

Go here for the most likely part failure. Did you purchase an oem housing & bulb or just a aftermarket unit.

Presumably it's the backlight dimming that gives the set good contrast ratios?, it's probably not possible to turn it off?

Have you tried adjusting the backlight setting?, turning that full up 'might' prevent the auto dimming?.
