Hi, if you put a brand new toner in and you're still getting an add toner message, the two most likely causes are:
1. A problem with the toner bottle
Sometimes, either in storage or in transit, the toner inside the bottle gets clumped up, and doesn't come out right. If you have another bottle handy, try that bottle. If not, gently rock the bottle back and forth several times to loosen the toner.
2. A bad PCU
The photoconductor unit (PCU) is sort of like an all-in-one cartridge that contains many important components. Sometimes when one of these components fail, the copier won't recognize when toner is being loaded. Replacing the PCU is relatively easy if you need to do it; instructions can be found here.
