Projector Bulb Life

concerned that projector is defected, have replaced two bulbs in 12 months

the lamp is the likely culprit, the Internet is full of places that will sell factory seconds, you should buy from Panasonic authorized dealers to ensure you are getting proper parts: http://www.encompassparts.com/item/6482565/Panasonic/ET-LAB30/Replacement_Lamp

The other part that can destroy lamps prematurely is the ballast. Although I doubt it is at fault because the ballast operates with high voltages and if a part is bad on it, the ballast usually will not work again. Secondly, the high voltage will start out high and after the lamp is started the voltage lowers to normal operating voltages. If this fails to lower then the lamp will be destoryed in a matter of hours not months.
