Try these two things together: hopefully one will work. If successful with both tweaks at the same time, bump your speed back up and try it again.
Go to advanced fax settings. Reach this menu through the wrench icon on the panel.
Change the ECM mode to off. ECM stand for error correction mode, and it'll warn you that you can't turn it off if you send color faxes. An aside: Who sends color faxes anyway? Inquiring minds want to know.
Also: Change the speed from 33Kbps to 14Kbps. This slower speed can overcome line noise.
