Can I Print From My Hp Officejet 6600 With A Usb Connection Instead Of Wireless?

I have a new HP Officejet 6600 and am trying to print from my MacBook Air. So far I've been able to do so wirelessly, but when I have no wireless connection I am trying to connect my MacBook Air via a USB Printer Cord and just print the old fashioned way. However, when I attempt to do so it appears the docs are stuck in the Printer Queue with the message "Unable to Find Printer - Printer is Not Connected." Am I doing something wrong, or is it even possible to print to HP 6600 with no Wireless Connection?
