Any Idea What Is Wrong With My Dell Inspiron Desktop?
Computer was working fine. Problem started when it turned off and power was applied the next morning.On power-up, computer has a dim lit screen but will not display post data. No sound can be detected except when the mem module is removed.Troubleshooting:Pressed the button to check power supply - bright green All fans are runningRemoved and checked CMOS battery - battery is goodRemoved power cord and drained MB power until MB light turned off - didn't solve the problemChanged jumper settings to clear CMOS - didn't solve the problemConnected a laptop via HDMI - video worked as a monitor Attached a USB keyboard - no responseAttached a wireless mouse - no responseTried another memory module - no changesDisconnected HD, DVD drive, Mem, and WIFI card. Still didn't post

Since you've checked most things that should correct the issue, you may have a bad MB or cpu. Just a thought!

I concur. However check the capacitors around the CPU. If any are bulging on the top then you will need a new M/B. Do you have a spare CPU? Any that the M/B supports, to check if the CPU has failed. Have you upgraded and kept the slower CPU maybe?
