The Dell Support Center installed on my pc says I have 4GB of RAM installed with a maximum of 16GB of RAM supported.  I contacted tech support through online chat to verify this information is correct before I go ordering more RAM. I have a  Studio Slim 540s 64bit pc with Vista Home Premium. The first tech says maximum possible installed RAM is 4GB, then he tries to sell me some RAM.   Why would a core2 quad only allow 4GB total RAM? He disconnects our chat. I get another tech support agent and she tells me 8GB is maximum. I ask her " Then why is my Dell Support Center telling me 16GB is maximum?" I offer to send her a screen shot. She says your out of warranty call a # for more help...grrrr Of course I would have to pay to get a simple answer that they should be able to provide me with. None of the manuals I looked at on Dells support website actually stated the amount of memory I could install. I decided to do a search which led me here :) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa366778.aspx This article concludes that my Dell Support Center is correct and Dell technicians are incompetent.
