Embroidery Unit Attachment Problems

When embroidery unit is attached and the machine is turned on the machine always shows an error message that there is an error and to turn off the machine and to turn the machine back on. This only happens when I attach the embroidery unit and and no matter how many times I turn the machine off then on the machine will not recognize the embroidery unit.
