It would be helpfull if you said what direction. Top to bottom or vertical could mean toner or toner build up on the laser scanner window just above the drum unit in the cavity of the machine. If you get eye level you should see the glass strip inside the unit. Horizontal lines are almost always toner carts. Although if this problem is vertical and it only happens when making copies and not prints then it would be white out on the glass strip in the scanner assembly
