Aspire One Ao531h-obk Vga Connection
The OBk model of AP531h has the VGA output socket located at the back left corner and the frame of the computer around the socket is slightly curved. This means the cable does not make a good connection. Also, because the socket does not have the usual two holes for the screws on the cable to tighten the connection, it is not possible to support the use of an external monitor.

Thats one of the things you need to contend with when you use a net-book. There is limited real estate for them to work with. I have an Aspire One as well, I've used external monitors many times with no issues. Perhaps you need to find a better cable? Some of the older cables are larger and may not fit well. Yes the cable can fall out but if you use it on a desk then there should be little movement. Try a new cable and see if that helps.
