Panasonic PT61LCZ7 Reviews

Panasonic PT61LCZ7

I have had nothing but problems with this TV. I heard from the technician that he has had many problems with the lamp on this tv. I purchased the TV in December 2008 from Costco in SanBernardino CA. It had a 500.00 off instant rebate at the time I purchased it and it had a 5 year warranty on the Lamp. In one month the TV went out. I took in back to Costco and they exchanged it. However, the rebate was no longer available so they could not issue me a new receipt when they exchanged it. In less than a year the lamp went out and after painless hours to detemine who was going to warranty it Costco or Panasonic my TV was picked up Electronic Repair company in Riverside (great company) to replace the lamp under warranty. I had my TV back in a week, total of 3 weeks with no TV and it worked fine. About a year later the Tv lamp again went out. I contacted panasonic, they approved the replacement, I again contacted Electronic repair company, they ordered the lamp and came to my house to replace the lamp. This time they replaced it on site in about 35 minutes. The technician said he had so many of these to replace he learned how to replace them quicker but you do have to dismantle all the part inside to get to the Lamp assembly. About 1 and a half years later Jan 2012 the lamp went out again. I contacted Panasonic again and complained they offered me 500.00 for the TV. The lamp parts and labor retail price is over 800.00. The Tv cost 1,900.00 and I could not get another 61 inch TV at the time for less than 1500.00 so I opted for them to replace the lamp again. Within 6 months the lamp started going out again. I contacted Electronic Repair company they said they would contact Panasonic and get back with me. The TV went completely out in November 2012 and I contacted Panasonic to tell them and that I wanted to be bought out but for more than 500.00 since I new what the cost would be again to replace the bulb. $800.00. They did not get back to me, I called them again after Christmas and since I purchased the first tv in December 2008, but returned the TV in January 2009 and got a new one with no reciept because of the rebate the TV Lamp was no longer under warranty. They offered to buy the TV back for $312.50 with the signed General Release agreement which would discharge PNA from any and all claims or demands in law or equity against PNA relating to or arising out of the facts, circumstances of the purchase, service, performance and repair of my Panasonic TV PT61LCZ7. I would also have to remove the 2 original product model/serial number stickers and send them with the release form and dispose of the TV no later than 30 days from the date of the signed General release form. This sound like a very small amount of money for the agravation and loss of time from all the times the TV went out. 4 times in 5 years with an average down time with no TV of 3 weeks. Not including the original exchange. If I keep the TV I cannot replace the lamp assembly my self and the few places I was able to find the assembly the cost was over $600.00 and out of stock. The Electronic repair company would charge me $250.00 labor to change the assembly for a total of $850.00 and the lamp would probably go out around a year again. I feel that this TV is a Lemon and they designed it to not last and give the consumer the false sense of confidence with the 5 year lamp warranty. I feel there should be some sort of Law suit filed against Panasonic but have not been able to find anything. I will never buy a Panasonic TV again or any other Panasonic product and I encourage all of you to do the same. Many complaints against Panasonic on Consumer reports. If anyone else has had a problem please contact me or if anyone has a how to video for replacement and can find one for 150.00 please let me know
