Trying To Determine If My Harddrive Has Failed On My Emachine.

1.Machine froze on a screen saver. 2. It's now stuck in a boot cycle and doesn't appear to see the harddrive or the OS partition drive. 3. When I put in the system restore disk, it asks for drivers that aren't on the disk.

It's very possible that the disk has failed.

Can you see it in the system BIOS?

What happens when you smack F8 repeatedly after you hear the BEEP during bootup?  If you get a Windows boot menu then Windows is corrupted (maybe the disk too).

Can you try a bootable CD?  Can you get someone to burn you a CD?

Here is a list of bootable CD images you can download free:  http://livecdlist.com/

Knoppix is a great rescue CD.  It gives you a fully functional Linux system and once booted you can inspect the hard disk without altering it.

Did you try another hard disk?
