Buying Car Through Ebay?

I am considering buying a car. The seller wants me to go through ebay, sending a large sum of money. I need to know this is on the up and up, legal, not a scam. I can't seem to reach anyone at ebay, they want pin numbers and account info I don't have. Very frustrated, please help. Respectfully, Linda Mackert
