Move the washer into its place after you install the water supply hoses. Most washers have the drain hose preinstalled. If your washer doesn't have a preinstalled drain hose, connect the supplied hose to the machine's drain opening. Measure the height of the standpipe or sink. The lip must be at least 30 inches from the floor.
Step 2:
Hook the drain hose over the lip of the standpipe or lip of the laundry sink. If connecting to a standpipe, don't seal the hose to the pipe. Plumbing codes require that an air gap be left between the drain hose and standpipe to prevent siphoning water out of the washer. Don't lay the hose on the floor. That will drain the water out of your washer as fast as you fill it. Plug in the machine and run it through a complete cycle to check that it drains correctly.
Step 3:
Construct a standpipe out of 1 ½-inch PVC pipe if you have only a floor drain and no sink or standpipe in your laundry room. Cut a piece of PVC pipe 35 inches long. This will be the upright portion. Cement a 90-degree elbow to the bottom end of the upright pipe. Determine where on the wall to install the upright. Cut a second piece of pipe to reach from the upright to the floor drain. Cement a second 90-degree elbow to one end of this horizontal pipe so it points into the floor drain. Cement the other end to the elbow of the upright. Fasten the upright to the wall with pipe straps. Hook the washer drain line over the lip of the upright.
