A soft reset can be done by holding the highest white key down while powering up the keyboard.
A factory reset can be done by holding the highest white key + the 3 closest black keys.
This will bring the keyboard back to 'as from the factory' assuming there is not a mechanical fault.
WARNING: this factory reset will delete everything that is in user settings!

I hope this is helpful to you!

I am the person who had the problem: I found the answer Saturday Apr 3 - the key is that it was intermittent. Reset (unlikely) didn't work. Cleaning the 6 pin connector had some possibility as only the damper pedal was in and out of function. A mechanical problem now seemed likely. Took off pedal case (2 screws) and turned it over. Released cable hold down (1 screw). Using magnetic screwdriver I took out 8 screws holding metal pedal case ensemble. Turned it over to reveal simple "guts". Each of the 3 pedals activated their own variable resistor (pot). I liberally sprayed the one for the damper with a high volatile tape head / electronic cleaner and worked the pedal about 30 times. Then sprayed again to flush - the pot has no visible access holes. Reassembled: and SUCCESS!

My wife, who had played the Good Friday service by playing the Grand Piano voice as if she were playing an organ - i.e. holding the keys down to sustain, now ran through 3 Easter hymns for the Sunday service with 100% damper function! That was the first full function play in over a year with 2 Yamaha service visits at $100 a crack.

The new question is: Did I get Divine Help or was it just blind pig luck?
