Radio Reception

I've been having trouble with the reception for quite a while with my XM Radio. On cloudy days it skips reception, but also on totally sunny days, it does the same thing. I have the Antenna Receiver in a window facing West. There is about a 2 foot outside roof overhang above the window,but that's probably 6 feet above the Antenna. The unit is probably about 5 years old, so I didn't know if I might need a new Antenna or whether there have been improvements in reception with a newer Antenna. Thanks for any help.
