Drying Cycle Is Taking Too Long

We had a repairman come look at our Whirlpool Imperial series gas dryer because it takes over 2 hours to dry 5 towels. He said it was because our exhaust from the basement to outside is too far for the moisture to travel. Does this sound like the problem.
