Refrigerator Filter Warning Problem

We have replaced our filter in the refrigerator before. This time, and we used the whirlpool filter, the light on the face of the refrigerator remains on the 'water' position and when we try to get it to the ice position the light lights that says replace water filter. We have tried putting it in and out. We have tried unpluging the refrigerator. Nothing seems to work. HElp?

The filter reset control allows you to restart the water filter status tracking feature each time you replace the water filter. See "Water Filtration System in the manual." After changing the water filter, reset the status light. Press the OPTIONS button to enter Options mode, then press LOCK to initiate the reset, then press MEASURED FILL to confirm that you want to reset the status light. When the system is reset, the "Order" and "Replace" icons will disappear from the display screen.
