Volume Controls Don't Work

Hi, I bought my walkman about two odd years ago and it's been functioning beautifully so far. Recently the volume controls went bust. the 'increase' button doesn't work but the 'reduce' one does. Bacially i can't increase the volume but only reduce it. I'm currently bed-ridden after an accident so i can't go out. I'm worried that if i do take it to a sony center the guys there will tell me to get a new walkman since this model's obsolete. The thing is, i have a newer model but the sound quality of the old one is the best i've eer heard. i was wondering if there's a possibility that this problem can be resolved without having to change the entire motherboard?
