this model is a CRT (three picture tube based) rear projection TV (see page 45 http://www.helpowl.com/manuals/sony-kdp51ws655-operating-instructions-113a1e3.pdf), not the LCD rear projection that requires a lamp (Sony never made a DLP).

If you are having issues then you can ask questions and include what it's doing wrong or what it's not doing.
