Needle Threader Doesn't Work After Changing Needle.

I changed the needle (flat side to the back, singer needle) and the threader does not work. Is there some special way the needle should be inserted? The threader worked before, but it is a new machine and only did it once. Am following instructions on dvd and quick start sheet. Any other help would be appreciated.
