Removed Needle Plate From Singer Curvy 8763, And It Won't Slide Back In, Uneven.

It appears theres a hook underneath the needle plate that needs to slide under part on the machine. However, no matter what I try, I can't maneuver it under the part and the plate is uneven and won't push back all the way on the left side (facing machine.) Of course nothing in the manual helps with this and I can't find anything on Google that helps either. :(
