If you can't clear the screen with the clear button (CL) then it sounds like you have a faulty keyboard.

Try reinitialising it first. Batteries out, power unplugged, turn key to "reg" Power on, L 000 should show up. Press "TM" and then "CL". replace batteries. Reprogramme as required. Simple steps to check faulty programming before looking at motherboards and hardware. Sharp tried to tell me I needed a new motherboard at more than the orginal register purchase price but tried this from the manual and all is fine now. Good luck.
