NOTE: If you are connecting a cable or satellite box to your TV using the composite connection (yellow RCA type) jack, you may be able to turn on Closed Captioning from the TV menu. However, as mentioned above, it is recommended to turn it on from the cable or satellite box.
Closed Captioning (CC) when connecting a cable or antenna directly to the TV
If you have an antenna or cable connected directly to the television (watching the TV without a cable/satellite box) you can activate analog or digital Closed Captioning separately in your TV Menu.
- Watching an Analog Program/Activating Analog Closed Captioning: In the television menu, setting Closed Captioning to CC1 typically turns on most captioning services. You can also try selecting CC2, CC3, CC4, etc.
- Watching a Digital Program/Activating Digital Closed Captioning: In the television menu, set Caption Vision to either Basic or Advanced. With Digital Captioning you have more options to change the text type, font size and font color.
IMPORTANT: Closed Captioning may not appear on your TV or appear intermittently for the reasons described below.
- Closed captioning may or may not function when viewing high-definition television (HDTV) programming because the captioning is not sent from the broadcaster. After following the steps above, contact your signal provider for further assistance.
- Not all stations broadcast programs (including commercials) with closed captioning.
- When changing channels on the TV, there may be a delay before closed captioning begins to display.
- TVs manufactured before July 1993 may not have closed captioning capability.
- If the source device does not have a closed caption option, connect the device to the television using composite or S-Video connections. After making these connections, use the television menu to activate the closed caption feature.
- After making the appropriate menu selections, some TVs can enable or disable the closed caption information by pressing the DISPLAY button on the remote control
