Intermittant Touch Screen Freeze

For the last month or so, my touch screen either doesn't work at all or acts as if the calibration is far off. Removing the battery does not always solve the problem. This happens when the phone is fully charged to 1/4 charge. It will sometimes automatically unfreeze if I get a call, but not always. It can sit frozen for a day, then work fine. The physical buttons always work and I can call the last person I spoke with. AT&T only suggested taking out the battery for 20+ minutes - not a permanent solution and does not always work.
