Why is my Samsung SGH-A777 cell phone overheating and experiencing short battery life?

When your phone feels overly hot it often happens when you are multi-tasking or running something like streaming radio or video for prolong periods of time. It does the same thing with laptops, netbooks, and the like, as the battery has to work harder to keep up with the activity. If it is being left plugged in while doing so, it is even more likely to happen. Even with a Li-Ion battery that doesn't retain a memory, leaving it plugged in for prolonged periods of time can, in fact, lower the battery life over weeks and months because it has to continuiously lower the heat level of the batter by draining it slightly, then building it back up, putting it through more cycles and using up it's cycle life sooner. You may need a new battery at this point.

You can buy one online at a fair price. Try amazon.com and ebay.com, but be sure to research the seller and make sure other customers are happy with their battery purchases from them before buying from anyone in particular. Once you do, and have your new batter, you can plug it in to charge it any time, even when it isn't fully discharged, but it's best not to leave it plugged in afterwards for more than a few hours, if that. Unplug it when you use it. If a battery overheats, you should turn your phone off and let it cool down, or just stop running all programs on it and let the screen sleep for a while. Another option is removing the battery for a few minutes.
