On the left-hand side of the phone, right next to the "send" button, there is a button icon that looks like a speaker- simply push and hold that button for 2 seconds and the phone will switch from handset to speaker mode. To toggle back to handset mode, hold for 2 seconds. Also, if you hold that button for more than 2 seconds, I believe it will mute the phone.
