the receiver turns off every half hour. how can i fix this

Hey there I have the same exact system.. if it is the rt2906 rca 5.1 system.. Heres what i did. I unhooked the processor board to the sound system. this requires opening the unit up. But with some patience you can do this. There is a fan and aluminum fins (heatsink) there are 3 screws holding it. Take the heatsink off and you will find that there is this white ggoop. That is "supposedly thermal paste... not good itity paste though. Buy a tube of arcrctic silver 5 a dot will do ya. Dont forget to clean the surfaces beforehand. A wet papertowel with rubbing alcohol will clean it. then you can apply the thermal COMPUND yes its silver compund :) after that just smear it with your finger e eis a nice layer on the transistors. then place the heheatsink baback on with the screws and the fan and make sure all the connections are correct. . Then BLARE it fofor a few mimutes bass songs should work well. feel if its hot around the back of where the air comes out. if it is you did the job perfect. Hope this helps :)
