Try the following and see if you have the option. (some Macs dont have this option)
1. Navigate to SYSTEM PREFERENCES
2. CLICK SOUND
3. CLICK INPUT
4. Where it says "USE AUDIO PORT FOR" drop the menu down and select INPUT
5. Connect your cable into your jack input.
6. Try record a mix through Audacity
