2002 Alero: Cruise Control Light On Dashboard Is Always On. No Cruise.

I recently noticed that the "Cruise" light (on the dashboard of my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero lights up) when I start this car. It stays lit up while I am driving my Alero around town. However, when I push the Cruise button on the steering wheel to activate cruise control, nothing happens...(i.e. no cruise control). I mostly drive this car in town and I don't need to use the cruise control. This car is in mint condition, and only has 42,000 miles on the odometer. I would like to fix this problem, but I've not found any information online. GM stopped making Oldsmobiles over a decade ago, so there are no Oldsmobile dealerships. I would greatly appreciate some advice on how to fix this problem. Otherwise, I guess i'll have to just "live with it".

When the cruise control light in your car is orange, it is either determining the speed to maintain, or there is a fault in an electrical component.
