How Can I Make The Screen Smaller?

THE FULL SCREEN HAS THIN LINES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN AND AN INCH WIDE BLACK LINE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN. SOMEHOW, I MANAGED TO MINIMIZE THE SCREEN WHERE THOSE LINES WERE INVISIBLE. IT WAS ACCIDENTAL, BUT THE SCREEN GOT SMALLER. WHAT STEPS SHOULD I FOLLOW TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN AGAIN
