Updates For Magellan Roadmate 1200

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT i NEED TO DO TO UPDATE THE ROADS INTO THE SYSTEM? THE GPS WAS GIVEN TO ME FROM MY DAD AND I AM NOT SURE IF IT UPDATES AUTOMATICALLY OR NOT.
